The Beauty and Beast of Dubai !

Outside View from Dubai Mall

Dubai is a city that is most talk able among many due to the massive developments that it had groomed over many minds, mine too. First impression always imprint in your mind forever, the total experience walking through the city is magnificent and priceless. The leaders of the country think out of box and do things differently than the rest, they aim to be the best. The architecture of the buildings is architected with greater detail and each has its own urban masterpiece such as Burj Khalifa being tallest building in the world (at the moment) , Burj Al-Arab (prestigious 7 star hotel) and Atlantis. Another mind boggling adventure in the city is the souks, the lively bustle  burst the silence of  many. The boats used for Dhow Souk are extremely colourful with lighted decorations which one can't never fail to capture. It is beauty and tranquillity everywhere..........

BUT Behind every beauty there is a dark eerie shadow, a bitterly truth, undigested  facts that remain valid that exist which have missed from the eyes of onlookers. The city which I was boasting about was build with the bare hands of many poor foreign workers whom are lured into utterly odious scams. The wages are not paid as promised, they are thrown at filthy Non AC accommodation and sandwiched with other co-workers in Sohanpur. The poor workers are forced to work 14-16 hours during summer without fulfilling basic necessity.  This workers are not the local Emiratis, they are the poor village fellows from Bangladesh and India whom sold their lands and property leaving behind their parents, wife and children. A once upon a time desert filled with cactuses (ouch it hurts when it is pricked) is  revamped by this workers now you can shake your leg and order Flatwhite at Starbucks at Dubai Mall. That is the 'innovation' this workers has brought to the city but in return they are treated with filth. The modern-age slavery never end with blue collared workers but also sometime ends with white collared. There is salary discrepancy between different race group that is working there, as an example a European beautician and paid higher than Filipino who is doing the same type of work !!

Dubai's rainfall is lowest among all around the globe or almost little therefore I feel cost to produce water in Dubai is far more expansive than petrol being listed as third being the biggest Environmental footprint from burning natural gas. Dubai being a desert is 'falsely' transformed into what it is today by going against
Dhow Boats
the will of nature, we need to sit and watch on the outcome. The verdict, well slavery is a pandemic that have been dragging along from World War  1 and we have read history about it, but the truth is that it still happens in some developed nations without much publicity and swept under the carpet.  I will still  visit the 'Desert-transformed--City' and rejoice in the development that have been brought by many elites around the globe, after all appreciating intelligence and  creativity is divine nature.
